Our Shared Focus…
Our Vision…
We want our local government area to be a sought after region by those who are considering moving here, and international visitors and tourists who will appreciate its natural beauty, heritage, art, culture, education and sheer liveability.
We also want it to be the best place for our existing population to want to live and flourish. We will fight for our fair share of government funding to improve health, infrastructure, tourism and the core services that we expect from our Council. We will endeavour to make Council more responsive to the region’s needs, businesses, professionals and future industries.
We want to see the Council decision making process more open and resources spent wisely for the benefit of residents and rate payers. The Central Business District in Armidale should be revitalised with the opening up of Dangar Street, through to Dumaresq Street, the addition of a food court in one of the three complexes and to lobby for the Coles complex be linked to the East Mall, as was originally planned.
When Council decides to spend millions of rate payer funds on any specific projects, or to purchase community assets, there has to be better community consultation. An “Idea Bank” needs to be established to capitalise on the wisdom and knowledge of our community. Our future plans should be viable, achievable, and tied with state government plans and priorities, so that information flow, collaboration and resourcing become smooth, such as in the areas of health, roads and energy requirements. A transparent Council, that can win the hearts and minds of its constituents, and engender trust, is the bedrock of an effective and functional region.
